Gab.com Hosting Provider Terminates Service
Gab CEO Andrew Torba announced late Saturday night (October 27th, 2018) via his Gab account and the Gab Twitter account that the hosting provider of Gab, Joyent (a company owned by Samsung), has decided to terminate its contract with Gab by 9am on Monday.
Joyent does not appear to clarify the specifics of the violation of the Terms of Service.
Many are speculating that this decision was influenced by the recent Pittsburgh shooting after it was discovered that shooter Robert Bower was one of hundreds of thousands of people to have a Gab.com account. Like numerous other violent criminals, the Pittsburgh synagogue shooter used social media.
Gab issued a statement disavowing the shooter’s actions and clarified their zero tolerance policy for threats of violence by users.
We have nothing but love for all people and freedom. We have consistently disavowed all violence. Free speech is crucial for the prevention of violence. If people can not express themselves through words, they will do so through violence. No one wants that. No one.

Joyent is not the only service to terminate its contract with Gab following the shooting. Hours after the shooting, PayPal notified Gab that it would be cutting ties with the free speech social media platform.
