Employees at a McDonald’s in Birmingham, Alabama were preparing to close Saturday (October 27th, 2018) when a masked man stepped in and began firing his gun. There were three injured: the shooter, the armed customer, and his son. All three were taken to nearby Princeton Hospital. The shooter did not survive the encounter, but both the armed customer and his son are in stable…

Gab Banned From Paypal Following Synagogue Shooting

According to Gab.com CEO Andrew Torba, PayPal terminated its contract with Gab today (Saturday, October 27th, 2018). PayPal’s decision may have been influenced by the discovery of synagogue shooter Robert Bower’s use of Gab. If the shooting did play a role in the decision, this would be unusual for PayPal, considering it has not terminated a contract with other social media platforms that the gunman used, nor has it ever done so with prior violent criminals. Gab issued a statement disavowing the shooter’s actions and clarified their zero tolerance policy…

The Haunting of Hill House: So Far a Winner For Hutton

Spoiler Alert: This review may contain spoilers. Just great. Timothy Hutton is surely rehabilitating his acting career, in Haunting of Hill House, by becoming the despondent and flighty father of a group of traumatized children that were attacked by a schizophrenic time-warping domicile.  In this common plot of horror, it took quite a few episodes for the older Hutton to appear, and all his adult children- you do not know -have uncanny abilities to see ghosts or are just delusional in the here and now. When these appearances occur, one…

ITV Job Application Racially Discriminates

A job listing for an ITV Tonight Researcher on the jobs website w4mpjobs.org has a concerning requirement. Listed as the second bullet point under the “TO APPLY” section, it states: “This traineeship is only open to candidates from a black, Asian, or non-white ethnic minority background.” In the name of equality (of outcome), some employers enact discrimination in this form in order to reach a form of parity. Names for this include affirmative action, reverse racism, positive action, and (to many) racism. According to Chapter 2 of the Equality Act of 2010, an employer may only…

Memes Could Be Unhealthy, Say Researchers

In a paper submitted to the UK Parliament by Loughborough University titled “MEMEotive – Analysing the Effects of Internet Memes on Young Teenagers’ Health and Health Behaviors,” five professors highlight the prevalence of unhealthy lifestyles among children and teenagers within the UK, and the burden of cost on the National Health Service (NHS). They argue that unregulated health information on social media can have a negative impact on the health choices of teenagers. They also suggest (within the quote below) that internet memes can potentially normalize bad behaviors like trolling, “body-shaming”…
