What We Know About Bomb Packages Suspect Cesar Sayoc
Suspect Cesar Sayoc of Aventura, Florida, was arrested Friday (October 26th, 2018) and is now the prime suspect (dubbed “#MAGAbomber”) of the “pipe bombs” (it’s still unclear if the objects were actually pipe bombs or lookalikes meant to scare) sent by mail to prominent American left-wing figures.
The bombs were sent to these public figures:
– Bill & Hillary Clinton
– Barack Obama
– Cory Booker
– Debbie Wasserman Schultz & Eric Holder
– George Soros
– James Clapper
– Joe Biden
– John Brennan (& CNN)
– Kamala Harris
– Maxine Waters
– Robert de Niro
Sayoc is, at the moment, just a suspect. But the 56yo man does have a record that includes being arrested nearly a dozen times, once in 2002 for making a bomb threat. According to WaPo, he called Florida Power and Light, saying “it would be worse than Sept 11” if the company cut his electricity.
DNA and fingerprints belonging to Sayoc were found on the bomb mailed to US Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA).
Cesar Sayoc is a registered Republican, a former student (but not graduate) at Brevard College, and current resident of Florida. According to the SunSentinel, state corporation filings show him as the owner of Native American Catering and Vending and VerTech AG. He appears to be a lone lunatic.
X-rays of the pipe bombs show them to be PVC pipes containing sulfur and shards of glass to act as shrapnel.
Trump released a statement on the attempted act of terrorism on Wednesday.
“[I]n these times, we have to unify… we have to come together and send one very clear, strong, unmistakable message that acts or threats of political violence of any kind have no place in the United States of America… The full weight of our government is being deployed to conduct this investigation and bring those responsible for these despicable acts to justice.”
